We therefore link visible signs to water chemistry, process data, materials and the location where the problem occurs in the installation.

Carbonate scale

Hardness, alkalinity, pH, temperature and cycles of concentration jointly determine the risk of carbonate scale.

Silica, sulphate or other mineral scale

Not every hard deposit is carbonate scale. Its composition determines the appropriate prevention and cleaning method.

Suspended solids and corrosion products

Particles can settle, consume inhibitor and provide a base for further fouling.

Frequently asked questions

Technical choices require system context

These answers provide initial direction. The final approach follows from the installation data and product documentation.

Is every white deposit calcium carbonate?

No. Silica, calcium phosphate, gypsum, metal oxides and combinations with organic matter can also be light in colour. Analysis prevents the wrong cleaning choice.

Can more antiscalant remove existing deposits?

An antiscalant is primarily preventive. Existing deposits often require separate, controlled cleaning and correction of the cause.

Why does scale often form in a heat exchanger?

Local wall temperature, the concentration boundary layer and evaporation may be less favourable there than in a bulk sample of the circulating water.
